Split into pairs; one person who has tennis experience and is naturally gifted and one child who does not. 3. Give them 10 min to explain to each other using explanation and resources 4. Set them targets and a time limit to play the game 5. Ask them to save the game if not complete and to note down the scores 6. Get them to analyse their own and each other’s games looking at their strengths and weaknesses and how they can improve Main activity: 1 hour Groups 1. Get the children to discuss their game with the class, reflecting on both games played and speaking of what they do and don’t like about it 7. What did they learn from the game? Has it improved their tennis skills? 8. What do they feel is the best way to gain an understanding on the sport and the best way to verbally teach someone 9. Explain to class these methods 10. Get children to create their own teaching plan using resources on how they would teach a novice tennis player Plenary: 30 mins A mini plenary would be carried out after the first game and again at the end of the final game. At The end ask them what they have learnt, how they have benefited and to they now have a greater knowledge, skill and understanding of the sport. Also ask what they think the score would be if they played another game. Questions to explore understanding What is tennis? How do you play? What equipment do you use? How many players are involved? What helped you? What previous knowledge did you use? Skills Rules Points Advantage/ duce/ serve/out/second serve Key vocabulary Assessment of success Observation throughout both games, verbally asking the children how they felt about it before the lesson and after the lesson. Look at scores form both games and see if there is an improvement and to look if they have managed to criticise/ praise them selves.
